I had some thoughts after giving a presentation the other day about low-voltage electricity and my work.
We conducted special in-house training and other training related to construction work.
Do the craftsmen and technical trainees at your company understand what they’re doing?
Technical intern trainees generally come to Japan to work in specific occupations.

In the construction industry, this falls under this category.
For a slope construction company, the construction business license would fall under the “Scaffolding and Earthwork” category, so the job classification would likely be “Scaffolding.”
That said, this is also a bit vague—since we assemble rebar for window frames, some people come in as “rebar workers,” or
Since they're anchor workers, they sometimes show up as "well drillers."
In the case of scaffolding, the exam is based on scaffolding work—something I’ve never even done before, lol.
It’s as if, from the government’s perspective, all scaffolding is just scaffolding...
Well, in our case, we also do scaffolding work, so it’s not a problem, but we generally hire trainees within the framework of those rules.
And now, getting to the main point: Do the interns understand the purpose of their work?
Why are we drilling holes with a diameter of φ90 for rock bolts?
What is the strength of the grout? What is the mix ratio?
and so on.
If we don't teach this, wouldn't it defeat the purpose of the technical internship program?
Wouldn't it be pointless to just describe the atmosphere on the construction site?
That's what I thought.
I doubt there are any interns who understand it this thoroughly, and I don't think there are any Japanese craftsmen who do either.
However, Japan is facing such a severe labor shortage.
It seems to me that skilled craftsmen should also be able to assist with construction management.
This is true for technical interns as well.
I believe that by ensuring workers fully grasp and understand the meaning of construction work, and by improving construction quality even slightly, we may be able to reduce the number of workers.
