Thinking while running, acting while running, and worrying while acting—this ongoing cycle leads to growth.

Hello, everyone.

This is Enta.

The Melancholy of Fly-Catching

Home-grown

I received a lot of feedback on my recent article.

I'm sure there are a lot of people who are struggling with this.

I’ve had a few people reach out to me for advice, and if there are a few, doesn’t that mean there are probably more than twice as many who didn’t have the courage to speak up?

I thought to myself...

As I listened to what everyone had to say, I realized that the common thread in their stories was that they had never worked anywhere else—they only knew this company.

But my current job is really taking a toll on me.

But I can't quit.

Worry

I think people who have this kind of worry are really great people.

And I just can't bring myself to say it.

That's why I can't figure it out on my own.

The important thing here is that it has nothing to do with whether you're good at your job or not. (I don't know the details, though, lol.)

I think that when it comes to work, you can make judgments based on experience—like, “Do it this way” or “Do it that way.”

But quitting a job isn't something that happens very often, is it? (From my experience, it doesn't happen that often.)

I’d like you to imagine this for a moment: back in your younger days, after club activities were over...

I’m quitting the sport I’ve been doing since I was a kid. I’m quitting abacus. I’m quitting calligraphy. I’m quitting dance.

How did you feel at that moment?

In my case, I’d been working pretty hard at swimming, but I remember feeling anxious at the time, thinking, “Huh? What am I going to do starting tomorrow? What should I do?”

People worry about things that don't even exist.

We are creatures who worry about things that haven't even happened yet.

  • According to a study by Pennsylvania State University in the United States,

  • "Of the anxieties and concerns the participants had, 91.4% did not actually occur."There is data that shows...

  • Source: Leahy, R. L. (2005). The Worry Cure: Seven Steps to Stop Worry from Holding You Back

This study was conducted in a clinical setting, andThe tendency that “there are many worries that didn’t actually happen”suggests that,

While we cannot definitively call this a “universal fact” due to the sample size and the possibility of bias, it is generally believed that this does not occur in 80 to 90 percent of cases.

Worry

No matter how much you worry about it, that’s not how it’s going to turn out!

The point is that no matter how dire a worst-case scenario you imagine, it won’t actually turn out that way.

That's because you should have gained the experience and track record needed to avoid that and prevent it from happening.

And sometimes, those around you will step in to make sure that doesn't happen.

If that doesn't happen, I'll think, "Oh! Me! I'm so lucky!!" lol (On the flip side, I tend to be conveniently positive about things like that.)

Instead of worrying and not doing anything, it’s more constructive to just go ahead and do it, then figure out what to do next!

Final Inspection

We contractors (slope engineers and civil engineers) often wonder, “How are we going to pass the inspection!?” right?

I think it's the same thing.

I'll think about it after I've done it.

I think while I run.

If you're worried about a situation that's already a done deal, there are plenty of people who'll be happy to help you, you know ^^

I thought about it while running, and

Run it while you're on the go, and

Let's figure it out as we go!

If we do that, I think the path will somehow open up for us.

I think I can do anything if I'm determined enough, so in a way, I might be a bit of a muscle-head, lol.

See you later.
