When driving on the Shin-Tomei Expressway, you’ll come across anchors like this.

The other day, I happened to be stuck in traffic due to an accident, so I took a picture lol

The anchor cap on the head is in a pretty bad state, isn't it?

It's connected horizontally too, lol

The mortar around it is all cracked up—it's bad, lol.

I'm guessing the position of this ground anchor is roughly at eye level.

And since drainage channels were installed to prevent soil pressure from building up, does that mean it was moving during construction?

Or was it already in motion, and the dewatering drilling was performed afterward?

I wonder if they edited the head in the photo like that to avoid the worst-case scenario?

The worst-case scenarios would be breakage or pull-out (detachment).

Plus, since it's right next to the traffic lane, it'll be too late to react if something happens.

I suppose that means they're taking every possible precaution to ensure safety.

But since this slope is pretty steep, if it were to collapse, I think the whole mountain would just go *BOOM*, so I guess the road would be impassable?

Just like in the photos of the Noto earthquake, the buildings are all crooked—I wonder what’s going to happen...

I think it would be fine to use steel instead of aluminum caps for the heads of ground anchors in the future.

If we're going to retrofit it to be this rigid, we might as well just use steel.

Well, there might be issues with the molds for the aluminum caps or inventory, but,

It would be nice if someone were to develop a cap that no one is making right now, though.

If you make it with hot-dip galvanizing, it won't rust that much, and to add rust-preventative oil, you'd need to make the inner cap out of rubber...

If we simplify the design, it looks like we can keep the price down quite a bit.

What do you guys at the ground anchor manufacturers think?? lol
