But that's beside the point.
I wrote about capillary action before, but,
The other day, I found a really nice location.
It’s probably a mountain that holds a considerable amount of water.
A temporary anchor has been installed there, and spring water is welling up from the hole.

They're coming out in droves from the anchor head, too.

Even with permanent anchors, the anchor head may protrude.
This is a very serious problem, so we need to take some kind of action.
The reason why this is a problem is that,
The anchor head and setting wedges are made of raw steel.Really?! (Although there's also an epoxy coating.)
Since it's untreated wood, it rusts right away.
Just from the moisture in the air, red rust keeps forming.
We add rust-preventive oil to prevent that from happening, but,
When water keeps bubbling up from below like this, it accumulates inside the cap.
Countermeasures
It's actually pretty simple—you just caulk around the entire anchor head.
If possible, apply a rough layer of caulk to the anchor head before it gets wet, as if you were sealing it, and then install it.
Water (Mizumichi) rises toward any point where it can escape (where the internal pressure is low), so
If you completely block the exit, it will come out from the back of the pressure plate.
This will allow you to attach the head cap with confidence.
Of course, the inside of the head cap is filled with rust-preventive oil, so the head has been perfectly treated.
However, a recent study found that the most significant deterioration in ground anchor systems occurs on the back side of the plates.
This is the one thing I just can't do
There's no way to stop this water.
OftenSome people say, “Stop it,” but that’s impossible.That's it.
And since it’s better for the mountain not to stop, you should go ahead and do it.
Dehydrating the snow makes the mountain lighter. This means it becomes harder to ski on.
In reality, there are probably factors at play where the mountain is being compressed by the anchor work.
It's truly immeasurable.
If possible, it’s best to drill a well for water collection and drainage.
I believe that the key to preventing landslides is to drain the water.
