When Air Gets Into the System | Hydraulic System Problems

Clogged Fuel Filter

The other day, the fuel filter on the generator got clogged and the engine stopped.

The photos above show the product after use and when it was new.

The colors are crazy different.

It feels like it was more than three years ago that I remember replacing it...

 

You don't really change these kinds of filters very often, do you? (except for the oil filter, lol)

I guess if you replace them every two years—or even during annual inspections, depending on the situation—you’d never have any problems, but is it just our company’s policy not to replace them unless they break? lol

 

On top of that, even though there was no fuel in the system this time, the Vietnamese guy kept turning the starter, which ended up drawing in a lot of air and causing the fuel lines to become completely filled with air...

Air-removal pump

Normally, the fuel delivered by the electromagnetic pump automatically bleeds the air out, but this time that didn't work at all, so I had to use the air bleed pump, pumping it back and forth.

There are a few tips for using this air-bleed pump to pump back and forth. First, loosen the 10 mm bolt on top of the filter, then pump back and forth.

If air starts to gurgle out here, there are several points along the line leading to the injector where you can bleed the air, so loosen them one by one and use the air bleed pump to pump the air out.

When that happens, the air is gradually purged, allowing fuel to reach the injectors, which causes the engine to start.

 

I’d love to say, “Here’s a video I put together—check it out!” but I haven’t edited it at all.

Well, I'm hoping to release it "sometime"—or rather, soon—lol.

 

If there were any Vietnamese people here, they could explain things like this, but lately I’ve been having a hard time conveying the finer nuances.

The language barrier really is a challenge, isn't it?

 

I can teach Japanese people to a certain extent, but they tend to forget it unless we go over it a few times.

Even though maintenance like this is important, I’m caught in a dilemma where I can’t teach it unless a problem actually happens lol

 

Well, for a normal air bleed, just turn the switch to ON, leave it for 2–3 minutes, and the electromagnetic pump will run and bleed the air on its own.

Most of the newer machines these days are pretty much the same.

If that still doesn't work, use a bleed pump to loosen each bleed bolt and try bleeding them one by one.
