When you're new on the job, you work by referring to the manual—thinking, "According to this manual, this is how it's done..." (knowledge-based). But as you gain experience, you work by recalling the manual—thinking, "This is how it's done according to this procedure..." (rule-based).
And as you gain experience, you’ll eliminate the need to constantly assess the situation and check the rules, replacing those steps with an automatic “skill-based” loop.
