We often talk about this on the job, don't we?

 

And this has a significant impact on whether young employees will grow or leave the company.

I think an environment where young employees can grow is one where they’re free to make mistakes.

What do you all think?

 

I made a lot of mistakes when I was young.

My former boss, who's retiring next spring, really helped me out a lot lol (at least that's what I think lol)

Thanks to that, I was able to grow up freely—or so I think—and that’s how I’ve come to where I am today.

 

Back then, I was interested in all sorts of things, so I really dove into studying both CAD and Excel.

That was also because the company provided an environment that allowed for it.

 

How are things at your company?

What about your seniors and supervisors?

 

The other day, I was talking with a young employee at a major company.

I listened to that person talk about their job and complain about their boss for about 30 minutes lol (3:7)

After all, my boss is always looking up the chain of command, so I end up having to take all the blame, lol.

On top of that, they expect me to fully understand and report on construction work I’ve never done before, and say that everything is my responsibility...

I review and edit everything from documents submitted to government agencies to reports for the company, but the writing is so vague because it’s written in a way that’s overly deferential to higher-ups that the message doesn’t come across clearly.

And all the responsibility falls on the young employees.

 

Because of that, he’s saying, “I want to quit already. This is seriously making me depressed!”

When I heard the story, I really felt sorry for them...

 

I think this young person needs the freedom to think and act independently in order to grow.

That's strictly within the context of company rules.

 

A boss who's willing to put up with that!

That’s just how it is for people our age, isn’t it?

What do you think of a boss who only looks up and never looks down?

 

Our job as subcontractors is to provide construction expertise to our clients—both the general contractor and the government agency—and to ensure their satisfaction.

And through that, training young employees is also part of my job.

 

And what's even more important is that they enjoy their work and do it with enthusiasm.

I think it’s important for people to find slopes interesting and realize just how deep the field of civil engineering really is.

Work is something you do for the rest of your life.

So I hope you’ll have even more fun and keep pushing your skills to even greater heights.

I just don't want to see it destroyed just so some boring big-company executive can climb the corporate ladder.

Well, since I'm a salaryman, getting promoted is part of the job.

I am fully aware that this is both the real appeal and the measure of its value.

However, I believe that what we engineers are truly seeking lies beyond technology itself.

Beyond Construction Management! Management That Goes Even Further.

 

It is unacceptable to trample on young people just to get ahead!

 

Even today, it’s not uncommon for high-ranking executives at major companies to find themselves with no one to rely on after they’ve climbed the corporate ladder, isn’t it?

I'm the only one getting promoted, and none of my juniors are following in my footsteps lol (Are there any yes-men around?)

There's a rumor going around that "not even grass grows" after someone who became the branch manager of a well-known company passes through there, lol.

I don't want to become that kind of person.

It feels like an honor to us when people say, “He was a great engineer!”

That craftsman had some great skills! He was really talented!

I’d like to do the kind of work where people say that.

 

And to ensure that this is properly passed on to junior colleagues and younger employees, I would like them to be free to think and act creatively.

Our job as middle-aged guys is to explore what lies beyond technology, educate young people, and look out for them!!

 

Let's keep a close eye on them and help them grow up healthy and strong!!!
