Behind the Scenes of Sprayed Mortar and Concrete

I have a question about grouting behind sprayed mortar and concrete surfaces.

In some areas, soil and debris may have washed away, leaving gaps.

Do you find yourself thinking, “I really have to get the injection after all!”?

 

Rain falls on the sprayed surface. A small amount seeps from the surface into the interior.

Water seeps in from the ground as well.

The rock masses that were once stuck together gradually break down into smaller particles (weathering).

That is why the soil is discharged through the drainage pipe.

 

That’s how gaps end up forming.

Do you think it makes sense to include that?

 

What I'm trying to say is,

We often perform restoration work on deteriorated slopes involving sprayed mortar or sprayed concrete.

 

During the design phase, the methods for selecting construction options include:

1. Remove the mortar, etc., and reapply the spray coating.

2. Construction using specialized methods employed by major contractors

It can be divided into two patterns.

 

Method 2 is chosen because it is slightly less expensive and easier to implement.

And, doesn't every construction method include void grouting without fail?

Like filling in the soil and voids to make them fit tightly together...

I can't help but wonder if that's really necessary.

To begin with, in cost estimation, the concrete to be drilled is treated as hard rock.

In that case, there’s no problem at all with applying it directly over mortar or something like that, right? (Reapplying it over the existing surface without removing it first is the cheapest option!?)

And I just don't think it's a problem at all if there's a little bit of space on the back side, you know~
