I'm sure you're familiar with hydraulic cylinders.

You often see oil leaking from hydraulic cylinders, don't you?

So, do you know what caused that?

Actually, while seal deterioration is a factor, leaks are more often caused by damage to the seal itself.

Examples include painting the cylinder and damaging the gasket, or the cylinder being struck by a stone or other object.

If the scratch is deep, the repair involves either welding to fill the hole and then grinding it down, or re-plating.

For minor scratches, gradually sand down the raised area.

Replating or replacement would be quite expensive, wouldn't it?

That's because the tolerance (precision) of this hydraulic cylinder is as high as 1/100 or even 1/1,000!

It's truly incredible craftsmanship.

So, please take the best possible care of your hydraulic cylinders!

For minor scratches, use an oil stone and apply oil as you work to remove them.

Using your bare hands, use an oilstone to gradually file down the areas that feel rough.

It’s a world of just a few tenths of a millimeter, but that alone makes all the difference.

If you ever have the chance to do your own maintenance, please try working on the cylinders as well.

However, the cylinders on heavy machinery are extremely dangerous.

Release the hydraulic pressure carefully, and be very careful to ensure that no heavy machinery arms or other objects fall from above.

If things go wrong, it could lead to a major accident.

If you're a complete novice, it's better to outsource the work.
