Let’s consider tension anchoring in ground anchor construction.

There are actually quite a few different approaches to tension in ground anchor construction, aren't there?

Stress Management

For example, when the tension in a wedge-shaped connection (wedge and ring) is set to 100 kN (for simplicity’s sake)

Apply a load of 1,100 kN and secure it in place.

At 2,100 kN, taking set loss into account (in the calculation), the tension stabilizes at 110 kN.

Although it is 3,100 kN, it is tensioned and secured at approximately 80% of the design load.

4. Apply a load of 100 kN, unload the jack once, and then apply a load of 100 kN again.

 

I assume this is the tension-anchored method that most of you are using.

I think 1 is the norm, lol.

Or maybe number 2?

Set loss

Considering Set Loss in Ground Anchor Construction

If it's just 3, there's a good chance it'll end up below 80%, so that's not great, lol.

Because it gradually expands after being put into service.

 

Method 4 involves first driving the wedge firmly into place to minimize any loss as much as possible, and then securing it in place.

Personally, I think 4 is the best, but wouldn't it be best if that could cover about 80% of the cases?

That's what I think.

Well, even with Method 1, there’s a good chance the rate will drop to around 80% after it goes live, but since there’s no basis for that, it’s been rejected? lol

 

Therefore, taking settlement into account, I believe 80% of the design load is appropriate.

Since this also depends on the installer’s judgment, there’s no single “best” option, but,

When I think about what might happen in the event of extreme stress (such as mountains shifting or an earthquake),

In the event of an emergency, the mountain is securely stabilized, and even under more severe conditions, the damage is limited to about 100 percent.
