Tasting Nagoya Cochin Chicken Sashimi | Food Review Series, Part 1

Hello, everyone.

This is Enta.

The other day, I had something absolutely delicious!

I'm originally from Kagoshima in Kyushu.

When you think of Kagoshima in Kyushu, you think of chicken sashimi, right? lol

So, I wonder if that flavor is something you can really only find in Kagoshima...

Just as I was thinking that, I realized it was right nearby!

There's a restaurant that butchers Nagoya Cochin right in the store and serves it to customers!!

They serve it like this, and you can request different cuts and such.

It's fresh and really delicious, isn't it?

We Kagoshima locals just can’t help but eat it raw with ginger soy sauce, can we?

And the liver is delicious in its own right!

This is just a general observation, but it seems that people in Kagoshima are at a much lower risk of contracting Campylobacter food poisoning.

That’s because I’ve been eating chicken sashimi since I was a kid, too.

My kids love chicken sashimi, too.

I've never had food poisoning from torisashi, so I eat it without worrying.

The Mystery of Kagoshima Residents: Are Native Kagoshima Residents Resistant to Campylobacter?

However, I think it might be dangerous for people from other prefectures. (It might be fine if you're used to it.)

Apparently, in Nagoya, too, the standard method is to cook them in a water bath.

Raw meat can be dangerous unless it's very fresh.

It seems that Nagoya Cochin is generally best cooked by applying heat.

As for that...Please try it at your own risk.

Each bird appears to weigh between 1 kg and 1.5 kg, and orders are placed on a per-bird basis.

As an adult, one bird just isn't enough lol (Is it just us Kagoshima folks?)

If possible, it’s best to have about two birds so you can really enjoy them, and you can always stir-fry the leftovers and eat them another day.

I'm definitely going to become a repeat customer!

The difference between Cochin and Kagoshima Jidori is that Cochin has firmer meat. Also, I feel like Kagoshima Jidori has a milder flavor.

However, here, thisI never imagined I’d get to eat something of such high quality—it was absolutely delicious. That was it.

It looks like they also offer online shopping.

This is totally irrelevant, but the word “koke” in the top image means “here” in the Kagoshima dialect.

"Kokekonka!" = "Come here!"

That's what it means lol

See you later.
