We’ve also been told that the hole won’t fit into the 90-diameter bore unless the threads are machined.
It's hard to insert if you use a socket designed for the VP40. (Things like the drill bit get in the way.)
However, using a VU40 socket makes it easier to insert.
VP and VU are different, so that won't work, right!?
That's what people think, right?
While it might not be suitable for general outdoor use, I believe it poses no problem for drainage drilling operations.
The reason is the thickness.
VP40 Standard: Outer Diameter 48 mm, Inner Diameter 40 mm (Tolerances exist but are omitted)
There is an 8-millimeter difference. Shoulder meat: 4 millimeters (metalworking term?)
VU40 Socket Specification: Outer Diameter 54 mm, Inner Diameter 48.5 mm → Inner Diameter 47.5 mm (Tapered)
The difference is 5.5 mm. Shoulder meat: 2.75 mm
When machining the VP40, I thought that if I removed 2 millimeters from both the male and female threads, it would fit, but in reality, it doesn't.
It must be less than 2 millimeters.
In that case, the connection point will already be thinner than the thickness of the VU socket.
And, of course, the recessed parts of the screw's ridges and grooves are flat, right?

The threaded portion has already been machined, so it is prone to breaking.
Just because they are fastened with screws doesn't mean they will be the same thickness or more durable.
It's definitely getting weaker.
Using a socket is definitely a better option.
The same applies to steel: since the male and female threaded sections are the thinnest parts, casings almost always break at the threaded sections.
Since it's thinner than the main unit, that makes sense, doesn't it?
And then there's the cost!
Since threading is very expensive, using a VU socket and adhesive is the most cost-effective way to increase strength!
By the way, if you have trouble telling the difference in thickness between VP and VU, just think of it as “the ‘U’ in VU is thinner.” (This isn’t the official explanation.)
