Kids these days!

I heard this all the time when I was younger! LOL

"I don't know what you're thinking," or "When I (your boss) was young, I used to work through the night," or "You're too slow," or "You don't really understand," and so on,

I was told all sorts of things lol

 

But when you really think about it, this is only natural.

There's no way a boss (aged 40 or older) could possibly understand a subordinate (in their early 20s).

The times and environments we live in are completely different.

When there's a 20-year gap between generations, it's like two people from different worlds trying to talk to each other.

What are you two even talking about??

Even though it’s the same Japanese, it’s only natural to feel that way; while the boss thinks it doesn’t make sense, the subordinates are just as confused.

 

It’s the subordinates who can understand that, and the bosses who can’t.
(Bosses tend to forget things from the past, and their memories of their younger days are usually whatever suits them best. They’ll distort them however they like.)

After all, a boss who can only speak from experience is bound to berate a subordinate like that, but I really hate people like that lol

 

When I was younger, I’d suddenly get sleepy while working and end up dozing off in the formwork, or the vibration and sound of the drilling would feel so soothing that I’d just fall fast asleep on the scaffolding lol.

Well, I got really scolded for that, lol.

But that's just how it is, really.

When you're young, you get sleepy at work, you want to go out at night, and you want to take it easy as much as possible.

That's what being young is all about! (Though there are plenty of people who aren't like that! lol)

If you want to work hard, go ahead. If you can slack off, go ahead and do that, too.

In a sense, it’s presumptuous of a boss to try to control everything.

If I’ve done what I’m supposed to do and it’s worked out, that’s fine; if it hasn’t, it’s just that my boss isn’t teaching me properly.

When teaching young people how to do a job, if you take it step by step and go slowly, they'll eventually get the hang of it.

 

People don't grow that much all at once.

"If you've been doing the same thing for about three years and it hasn't worked out, well, that's just the way it is." (Someone in that kind of position)

The top performers start to show their potential around the third year. In some cases, they start to shine as early as 1.5 years!

Young people who have shown promise will quickly learn the ropes and become top earners.

Old guys should just quietly step in to help when young people make a mistake.

There's absolutely no need to go on and on about it. (But when it comes to life-threatening behavior, speak up without hesitation!)

You don't need to talk about personal matters or things that aren't relevant. (It's fine once you've gotten to know each other and built a relationship of trust.)

When you teach, make sure to teach them thoroughly; after that, just leave it to them and things will work out.

If a boss shirks responsibility simply because he or she doesn’t want to hear it themselves, then they’re not a boss at all.

Just some older guy from another world. (He's a bit slow on the uptake.)

 

It’s part of being a mature professional for subordinates to respond appropriately, and they need to adopt the right attitude when being taught something.

You don't have to respect a boss who teaches you how to do your job even though you're not very good at it, but as long as you don't dislike them, that's fine.

Because once you start disliking it, it becomes harder to learn the job you want to master.

It's also important to make an effort to speak in a way that your boss can easily understand.

My boss generally lacks the ability to understand things. Please keep that in mind when you talk to him.

Please keep that in mind.

And just as you're about to become a manager, a subordinate from another world will appear before you.

That’s when your actions and words will be put to the test for the first time!!
