The Basics of Landscaping | What to Check First at a Landscaping Site

However, I think we've more or less settled on a general direction.

What are the basics of landscaping?

If someone asked me that, the first thing that comes to mind is hardness, right?

The hardness is"Yamanaka-Style Soil Hardness Tester (Standard Model)"

Use this. It seems there are some ultra-lightweight and inexpensive options available these days.

Where and how should we measure?

Measuring with a hardness tester is actually quite difficult, but the question is, “Where on the slope should we measure?”

Well, to sum it up, lol

Collect data from the hardest section at representative locations along the slope

The reason is that measurements are taken based on the softest part,

If you set the thickness, there is a possibility that no hard spots will form.

Therefore, regarding the landscaping study report,We need to evaluate this under the most stringent conditions.

Next up: pH

If you Google "pH,"
pH is measured on a scale from 0 to 14, ranging from acidic to alkaline, and
It indicates the degree of acidity or alkalinity based on the numbers on the scale, and
pH 7 is considered neutral, and values below that are acidic,If it is higher than that, it is considered alkaline.
The lower the value is below pH 7, the more acidic it is, and
The higher the value, the stronger the alkaline properties.

That's what it says.

This is an illustration I featured in a previous article, but,

pH value

Generally speaking, there’s no problem as long as the soil’s pH is neutral to slightly acidic.

As long as the value is between 7 and 5, it is unlikely to affect the growth of most grasses, barring any special conditions.

How to Measure pH

As for how to measure pH, most testers are the type you stick into the soil.

We're measuring by passing a very small current through the circuit, but the moment the needle in the photo above shot up—

I haven't really seen this before lol (I hope it's not broken lol)

Huh? Even if it breaks... lol

I guess that means it's pretty much neutral, lol.

Unless the surrounding mountainsides are completely barren, there’s no reason why it wouldn’t grow through landscaping efforts.

There are certain areas where it generally doesn't grow. For example, hot spring resorts—places where the pH level is unusually high.

If you want more detailed information, this is the solution-based method, in which the soil is dissolved in a standard solution for measurement.
(It's actually kind of a hassle, lol)

pH meter

I have this pH meter myself, but because it requires calibration and such, it's not suitable for use in the field.

Generally speaking, accurate pH readings are more reliable when plants aren't thriving or during surveys of such conditions.

This might be suitable for quadrant measurements in vegetation surveys...

What Is the Codrate Measurement?

Stabbing-type weapons really are best for the field, lol.

Roughly NeutralAs long as I understand that,

 Document the design thickness and the appropriateness of the vegetation

We will prepare a landscaping proposal and submit it to the local government.

In doing so, we will use data such as pH measurements and water hardness, as well as rainfall amounts, mountain orientation, and other factors.

In that context, we will assess the appropriateness of the vegetative engineering measures and ultimately leave the decision regarding thickness—which involves financial considerations—to the government agency.

Then, I receive the thickness specifications in the instructions.
