Continuing from last time, I’d like to talk about vegetation engineering.

 

Slope Greening

Effects and Types of Vegetation Engineering

This is a bit of a repeat of the link above, but let's go over it again.

 

1. Basically, Vegetation Substrate Spraying (formerly known as Thick-Layer Substrate Spraying)

Mix the leaf mold with the seeds, fertilizer (such as "All 15" or slow-release fertilizer), and glue, then apply it. (See photo above.)

Vegetation can sometimes grow even on bedrock with some rock, and by adjusting the thickness of the sprayed coating, it is possible to accommodate layered natural ground as well.

 

2. Seed Spraying Worker

Mix water, fiber (paper chips), seeds, and adhesive, then spray the mixture over a wide area all at once.

3. Sprayed Soil

Mix water, leaf mold, seeds, and glue, then spray the mixture over a wide area all at once.

We adjust the thickness slightly depending on the location (bedrock or soil).

 

4. Landscaping Work (Planting saplings, laying sod, etc.)

We will lay sod or plant vegetation (by planting saplings directly) on gently sloping embankments.

There are a few such cases in the agriculture and forestry sectors.

It is also common in the fields of urban civil engineering and landscaping.

So, come to think of it, I don't think this is really our job as slope contractors, lol.

 

5. Vegetation Mat Installer

By applying this to the entire slope,

I'll grow the seeds.

 

The above are representative examples of the basic landscaping methods currently used in Japan.

Since it's basically based on the market price, it's easy to understand, isn't it?

There are some other special cases, but most of them fall into the categories listed above.

 

So, given Japan’s current climate, which of these basic construction methods should we choose?

With that in mind, and based on the previous two posts and this one, I’ll give it some thought for the next post.
