It looks like construction is underway at the base of this slope.

It looks like the house collapsed in that direction.

If you look closely, you can see that a gravity-type? retaining wall has been partially constructed at the far end of the slope.

Were there signs of collapse even earlier than that??

The slope beneath the house is made of dry-laid blocks, isn't it?

It's collapsing easily—maybe because it lacks strength.

Apparently, there was a report of water coming out from the bottom of the slope, so could this be caused by a break in a deteriorated water pipe?

 

The issues moving forward are the cause of the building's collapse and the identity of the landowner.

Generally, the owner is liable for any property located on a slope or for any collapse of the slope.

 

It’s entirely possible that the cause of the damage will be attributed to vibrations from construction work below, and the owner may make that claim.

That's because the landowner bears full responsibility.

Lately, we’ve been receiving quite a few inquiries from property owners (landlords) who have dry-stone walls or slopes on their property.

However, since slope stabilization projects tend to be quite expensive, about half of the people end up giving up on them.

 

While taking proper measures will ensure that your home deteriorates before the slope collapses, existing slopes will not be able to withstand recent extreme weather events, such as heavy rain, unless measures are taken.

I don't know which comes first, but maybe taking precautions is the best way to avoid causing trouble for anyone.

 

I believe the number of slopes like this will continue to increase in the future, so please carefully inspect any slopes you own, and if you notice any abnormalities, have a professional check them out.
