The other day, I did a little work on modifying my spring drill.
After using it for a while, it seems the single-pipe section of the legs starts to warp, so I'm reinforcing the legs.
Align the pipes of the same diameter so they fit nicely, then weld them together. (Same diameter, wall thickness = 5 mm)
This was the first time I taught this type of process to a student who had never done it before, so I started from the very beginning.
From measuring the materials to cutting them out and aligning them.
There are some parts and tips that can be quite challenging for beginners.
We were able to reinforce it in this way.
I'll degrease this area and apply rust inhibitor.
Extend the pipe on the opposite side as well, up to where the control panel protrudes.
Since the pipe is an aftermarket addition, I’ll bolt on a support to the angle bracket on the control panel to prevent it from bending.
Doing it this way will improve the balance considerably.
Finally, we’ll modify both ends so they can be rolled onto single pipes.
It really makes things so much easier when you can get around with ease.
It's just a small modification, but this should make it last a long time.
When you’ve worked on a piece yourself, you develop a deeper attachment to it, and I think that learning about the crafting process can inspire you to create things.
Once you realize that you can easily make even simple things, the number of things you can create will grow endlessly from now on.
