Where Do Rockfalls Come From? | Causes and Countermeasures

Hello, everyone.

This is Enta.

I went to Toyama today.

It's about time for work to start in colder regions, isn't it?

It's especially helpful during spring!

Thanks! lol

But that's beside the point.

When inspecting a slope, the area above the slope shoulder is more important.

Rockfalls on Slopes

As I often say during the rope training sessions we conduct at our company,

"Please check the conditions at the top of the construction slope when installing the rope," it says.

This is a fairly common type of accident that occurs during construction on the upper part of the road shoulder,

There are falling rocks coming from even higher up than where the rope is stretched.

The ropes we use to descend while wearing safety harnesses are usually secured to standing trees.

Even trees with a trunk diameter of 20 centimeters or more sway quite a bit.

If the trees are swaying, that means the ground is shaking. When that happens, there’s a risk that rocks and other objects on the ground could shift.

As a result, a rockslide occurs.

Caution: Falling Rocks

Mountains with steep upper slopes or areas with loose rocks are particularly dangerous.

As long as the rocks aren't too big,Green Net and Trical Net...can be prevented.

However, if the rock is of a class that can push it aside, it becomes extremely dangerous.

Just a 1-centimeter-sized stone passed right by my ear, andWhoosh! It has such powerful destructive force that it makes a *thud* sound.

If it goes beyond that, there is a very real risk to one’s life, and many people have died as a result.

By the way, even a 1-centimeter impact is enough to leave a bruise. (I was hit once before, and it felt like it might have broken.)

Please take all necessary safety precautions to minimize the risk as much as possible.

If there appears to be a cluster of loose stones that poses a significant hazard, you could apply a temporary coating using fiber-reinforced mortar or similar material, or

It would be a good idea to secure the roots and so on.

Whether they present it as a corporate initiative or as an innovative safety measure is up to the supervisor, isn't it? (laughs)

See you later.
