Jig for Straight-Pulling PC Steel Wire (Part 1) | Construction

To be honest, I was actually planning to write today about how the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism is open and transparent, while NEXCO is secretive.

But after giving it some thought, I’ve decided to write about the PC steel wire I mentioned the other day, lol.

I realized I was just going to end up writing about NEXCO's shortcomings, lol (Is it just their old-fashioned, problematic culture?)


But that's beside the point.

 

In my recent post, I decided to build a jig for tensioning PC steel strands.

Improve workability to enhance quality.

That's because the second phase of the anchor installation work at that site—which gave us such a hard time—is set to begin again at the end of this month.

Since there aren't that many of them, it's no big deal, but dealing with the stress takes a lot of time.

I'm creating this to dispel that notion.

Ground Anchor Construction; Tensioning Work

There are two ways to make it.

The material is either iron or plastic.

This time, there are eight 12.7 mm PC steel strands. Eight evenly spaced notches are required.

Let's try to put that into practice.

Since the 12.7 mm size won't fit, I'll go with 13 mm for now.

There are 8 indentations, but you should make them as if there were 9—13 mm × 9 = the straight-line distance between the circles.

Since the straight-line distance between a series of circles is the circumference, we divide it by π (pi) to find the diameter.

 

Let's try arranging eight 13-mm circles evenly around a circle of that diameter.

It looks something like this, but there's only about 1 mm of space between the two 13 mm circles.

It's not necessarily a bad thing, but when using plastic, strength becomes an issue. With iron, it's a matter of tolerances.

I don't need it to be that precise, so I'll redo it so it opens up a bit more.

When you remake it, simply increase the number of holes in your calculations; if you don't change the number of strands inside, the gaps will easily get larger.

By the way, I made it to be 16 units long this time.

This will hold eight lengths of PC steel strand.

However, since the indentation is too shallow here, I'll try placing it a little deeper (toward the center).

Oh, I just noticed—there’s a poly hose here!! (I’m writing this blog post while putting it together.)

Since a 13 mm size definitely won't fit, I'll go with 18 mm (the poly hose size is 16.7 mm).

It looks something like this. Isn't this the same as the spacers often used for anchors? lol

If I could just get some of this, it'd be a piece of cake, lol.

Well, since I've gotten this far, I guess I'll just go ahead and finish drawing the blueprints for now, lol.
