Well, a drinking party for the civil engineering crew (Spazene + local civil engineering firm + slope stabilization company)
That was so much fun lol
It really is more fun to go out for drinks without any work colleagues!
But that's beside the point.
Design consultants generally do not consider factors such as constructability.

When it comes to construction, the contractors often think, “If we did it this way, the quality would improve,” or “If we did it that way, we could shorten the construction schedule.”
It says that, but the basic rule is that we don't adopt any of that at all.
That's because, in design consulting, this is what the site looks like. Let's design it using this, that, and the other thing.
So, for now, we'll come up with about four construction methods, and ultimately decide on the least expensive one.
Generally, we go with the cheaper option after comparing costs, but since the construction method is basically already decided, it’s a done deal, lol.
Generally speaking, these are typical construction methods, such as frame construction combined with rock bolting or anchor installation.
However, whenever other proprietary construction methods are involved, the design departments or sales teams at the major firms are pulling the strings behind the scenes (lol).
Occasionally, there are special construction methods that surprise me when I get involved in the design process, but,
In cases like that, it’s either a construction method favored by the government official in charge or one favored by the construction consultant.
Other than that, the shadows are always moving lol
In that case, since we—as general contractors—can’t purchase the materials even if we’re able to do the work, we’ll have to back out.
Well, that makes sense since I don't have the rights, lol.

It’s not necessarily true that the construction method specified in the design is the best one.
If the goal is to shorten the construction period, it would be better to use anchor work combined with pressure plates rather than using anchor work alone for the retaining wall.
In terms of workability, even among load-bearing plates, steel load-bearing plates are preferable to prestressed concrete (PC) load-bearing plates.
Even among frame sizes, the □300 offers better workability and value for money than the □200.
Design consultants are just doing their jobs.
So, the design itself is fine.
I mean, it’s obviously weird, right? Not that I’m saying anything, lol.
It is also part of our job as contractors to adapt the plans so that we can carry out the work efficiently and in a way that maximizes our profits.
On the other hand, there are construction supervisors who carry out the work exactly as specified in the plans, but,
That's fine in its own way, but as a construction manager, it's not quite up to par.
The reason it's not quite up to par is that even if it's difficult to install, they go ahead and install it anyway—they make sure it gets installed.
Making design changes requires a certain amount of experience, wisdom, and technical skill.That's it.
Just because I don't have much of it, lol
A competent supervisor will make adjustments to ensure the work is easy to carry out and that the project is profitable.
He’s the kind of director who can pull that off. Directors who just go along with whatever the government tells them and say things like, “Yeah, you’re right…” just won’t cut it, lol.
Gain a solid understanding of the basic design provided by the design consultant, and
We adapt our construction methods to the conditions on-site.
This is how a worksite should truly be.
Complaining about the design won't get us anywhere.

On the other hand, while it will be challenging, the sense of fulfillment you get as an engineer will increase significantly.
I mean, it’s a job for the general contractor, but if you’re a first-tier subcontractor, you’d be involved in that sort of thing, right?
Everyone wants advice and suggestions like, “If you do it this way, you’ll get things done faster.”
I recommend bringing this up during design reviews or on-site meetings.
