That's the absolute basics of slope engineering, isn't it?

 

Have you ever stopped to think about why you're doing this?

When I was young, I used to go to the job site without giving it a second thought, and

I was putting up lath with the subcontractor's foreman.

For about three years, I was a supervisor, craftsman, and jack-of-all-trades, lol.

Thanks to you, I've learned a lot of things.

What I learned led me to wonder, “Why am I doing this?”

This becomes clear when you consider the properties of concrete and steel.

This is just common sense, but,

Properties of Concrete = High Compressive Strength

Properties of Reinforcing Bars = High Tensile Strength

Right?

Combining these elements creates a composite structure that is resistant to both compression and tension.

That is how it acts against external forces.

There is a type of temporary spray-applied lath without wire mesh that’s 3 cm thick, right?

You can easily break that with your foot.

However, if you add some wire mesh to that, it will be less likely to break.

 

Also, by adding the wire mesh,Continuity of the Entire Slope...will appear.

In other words, it protects the entire slope from external forces.

Even if partial collapse occurs, the presence of the rebar mesh ensures that,

Because there is continuity, the structure is designed to handle the whole.

It also serves to prevent parts from peeling off or falling due to deterioration.

 

However, it's just a 2mm steel wire, after all.

Since strength cannot be expected, no strength calculations are performed during the design process.

 

When using spacers, you position the lath in the center, right?

Actually, reinforced concrete is structurally stronger when the rebar is positioned as close to the outer surface as possible.
