The disaster-preparedness well we’ve been constructing since last month is now complete.
That's great!
This is where the portable fire pump will be installed. (A cover will be installed at a later date.)
We're planning to test this out on the 9th. (The fire department is coming to help, lol.)

This is a well for disaster preparedness built by a local company in Iwakura City, Aichi Prefecture.
Looking ahead, we hope to donate one item each year to elementary and middle schools in Iwakura City.
We are also considering donating water filters so that people can have safe drinking water.
And this story was even featured in the newspaper.
Since this is volunteer work, things don't move along at a rapid pace, but I hope we can make progress little by little.

There is just one concern, though.
There are some water utility companies that are telling us to stop this volunteer activity.
Basically, it seems they're saying their vested interests are being infringed upon.
Normally, the work would have gone to us (that company), but if it’s done on a volunteer basis, we lose the work.
What do you think of contractors who are still talking about "special interests"?
I get that it's a small city, so it has a close-knit community, but isn't it a bit crazy to be talking about "special interests" when it comes to resources that could be used during a disaster? lol
They don't put up any money, but they sure have a lot to say.
It's really lame, isn't it?
What's even more embarrassing is that he's saying this to the younger kids, not to me directly.
I'm so embarrassed!
I really hate these kinds of sneaky tactics, you know?

I think the same thing happens in every region.

Local businesses got together and pooled their resources to organize volunteer activities through an organization called the Youth Division!
I don't think anyone has the right to stop me.
How imaginative do they have to be to think that even volunteers are involved in their own vested interests!? lol
It's actually starting to make me laugh.
So, the more people encouraged me, the more I wanted to expand our volunteer efforts—which is why we’ll be installing wells again next year!
Actually, once we put up a plaque like this, get featured in the newspaper, and have the fire department and school officials cheering us on,
Once it starts, though, it gets pretty hard to stop.
I’m planning to bring this up with the Ward Mayors’ Association (I’m a former ward mayor myself), so,
I think Iwakura City in Aichi Prefecture is on its way to becoming a disaster-resilient city. (Just my opinion.)
