The other day, I had a chat with the president of a slope construction company who was really passionate about his work lol
There was one thing that really surprised me!
It means I can't have a machine!!!! lol
Isn't this amazing?
That was a real eye-opener!
Personally, I used to think that if you didn't own your own equipment, you couldn't do the work, and it would be hard to make a profit!
However, it turned out that, in reality, they’re mostly getting by with leases!!
For spray application, we’ll rent a squeeze pump to do the spraying, and for drilling, we’ll rent the necessary equipment.
Rent them all.
Machines take up space and cost money to maintain.
If you think consumables are a cost, then renting the machine is the way to go!!
This is amazing.
An era where people alone can make things happen!
The general contractor knows that too, so it makes things easier, doesn't it?
All you have to do is make all the arrangements.
I'm in Aichi Prefecture, but of course, there are costs involved for machine storage, supplies, maintenance, and so on.
But it would be so much easier if there were none of that at all, lol.
Slope-maintenance companies that can handle everything with just their own staff are the best, aren't they!!
Well, that’s a common approach among major contractors, but I’ve rarely had a chance to talk about it like this (lol) (I don’t have any connections in the industry, lol).
But you’d think, “As long as I can keep working and put food on the table, that’s great!” right?
When you think about it that way, slope maintenance is a pretty easy line of work, isn't it?
All you need to get started is a 2KVA generator and a hammer drill, lol.
Fall arrest devices (safety harnesses) have gotten pretty expensive these days, though...
The thing is, I just love machines!
It's super cool!
It’s certainly true that the availability of machines has broadened the range of possible jobs.
However, this can sometimes put a strain on the company.
Do construction companies just assume they have to own their own equipment? Even if they don't, they can just lease it these days, right?
I think so, too.
Which one fits your company's style better?
That's all there is to it, isn't it?
After all, you can always buy a machine.
But that conversation got me thinking about all sorts of things!
