Do you file your tax returns electronically?

I haven't been doing that lately, lol.

It's not the general contractor, after all.

 

Well, even when we’re a subcontractor, if construction management is involved, we do submit documents electronically.

We can either generate XML output or, if using the same software, handle this via data transfer or similar methods.

 

I'm one of the guys who was the first in the Tokai region to submit a project (for a pilot program run by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism) using electronic submission (photos only). lol

Back then, digital cameras were pretty basic—the LCD screens were only about 5 cm, and they were bulky and heavy...

I'll take the camera, snap some inventory photos, and upload them to my computer.

 

Back then, there weren't even any systems to detect tampering, so we just put everything and anything on CDs lol

That said, there was software for electronic submission, so I used that to submit the work.

 

Recently, management tools other than the electronic filing software have also become more robust, making the system extremely convenient.

Especially since we’re now in an era where even surveying can be done by one person, there’s no need to write anything in a field notebook.

If you import the seam data from the original design drawings, the coordinates will be easily entered into the system. All you have to do then is use that data to conduct a field survey.

 

In today's surveying, it's much easier to learn how to use the system than to understand how coordinates are calculated.

The point is that learning how to use things—rather than getting bogged down in complicated calculations and theories—is what makes you a more capable worker.

We’re living in an era where people ask, “What exactly is a surveyor? Is that a good job??” lol (Though I have no idea where my license went, lol)

The number of hours spent on administrative work in construction management is now less than half what it used to be.

Drawings are created in CAD, photo logs are digital photo logs, and survey data is recorded in digital field notebooks and plotted directly onto the drawings.

 

The amount of time spent on administrative work in construction management will likely continue to decrease.

It’s entirely possible that, in the future, drones (UAVs) will take photos on their own.

It's entirely possible that even photo management will become a thing of the past.

It seems like drones could also be used to monitor unsafe behavior and issue alerts, doesn't it?

It seems like AI capable of predicting workers’ behavior could also handle calculations for things like production scheduling, so is a supervisor only needed when first arriving on site to assess the conditions?

Construction is done by people, but management is handled by AI systems such as drones.

 

In just under 20 years—since the days when I was directing with film cameras—times have advanced this much.

Also, I wonder what things will be like 20 years from now?

 

The other day, a site supervisor from a general contractor said...

"The electronic filing software our company uses is terrible!"...

That was hilarious lol

According to that director, it’s just really hard to use, and he’s been asking the company to replace it, but,

Apparently, since the software is so cheap, nothing's going to change lol

And thanks to that software, it seems they're still relying on a "human wave" approach!!

I hope that in 20 years, that software will have evolved into something actually usable lol

The name was so good it made me laugh.

It was software I've actually used myself, though.

 

The system will continue to evolve in the future.

We’re getting more and more familiar with the DonDon system, and using it is becoming part of our job.

Saying "I don't know" is the same as shirking your responsibilities.

I suppose we're moving into an era where we don't need people like that anymore.

If you make sure you can really master the current electronic filing system, you'll be able to survive no matter how things change in the future!
