The Difference Between Risk Sensitivity and Risk-Taking Behavior | Characteristics of People Prone to Accidents in the Construction Industry

Hello, everyone.

This is Enta.

Have you heard of the terms “risk sensitivity” and “risk-taking”?

I’m a little embarrassed to admit it, but I found this out the other day when I attended a meeting of a major disaster prevention council lol

I thought it wouldn't look right to just use the table as is, so I decided to create a chart instead.

Risk Sensitivity and Risk-Taking Behavior

It looks something like this.

What Is Risk Sensitivity?

Intuitively understand what is dangerous and what constitutes a dangerous situation, and

The ability to keenly perceive the severity and likelihood of harm

What Is Risk-Taking?

This indicates "the extent to which one is willing to accept risk."

Even when they are keenly aware of the danger, they do not deliberately try to avoid it, and

Getting Caught Up in a Dangerous Situation

How about you all?

Are you highly sensitive to danger?

Even so, are you the type who boldly takes on that kind of challenge? lol

There are some idiots out there who occasionally fall victim to the “normalcy bias”—thinking that they’re the only ones who are okay, lol.

Danger

The ability to sense danger the moment you see a situation can, surprisingly, be developed by listening to others’ experiences.

For example, stories about dangerous situations your boss has experienced, or near-miss experiences your senior colleagues have had.

In that sense, if you listen carefully to what others have experienced, when you see the situation firsthand,

It makes you think, “Come to think of it, they did say something like that.”

If you constantly expose yourself to examples of danger, your instincts will kick in when the time comes.

I've been saying this for a long time: it's important to be mindful!

Make a conscious effort to understand, and make a conscious effort to ensure safe construction!

In any case, simply being mindful of it can completely change your behavior.

Even a fool can perform work unsafely.

Just by being mindful of working safely, you'll start to clearly see the hazards around you.

In addition, knowledge of the law will broaden your horizons.

Risky Behavior

The more you learn about safety, the more you feel tied down and unable to move, but,

You have to install it properly.

That is part of the supervisor’s job, and it is the craftsman’s job to accurately understand that and carry it out.

Let’s work safely while effectively raising our safety awareness!

See you later
