Commute times of 1.5 hours or more are a waste of time | Work Styles

Hello, everyone.

This is Enta.

I've been wandering around the Yamanashi and Nagano areas again this week, lol.

I’d like to keep my work area as limited as possible, so I’m considering a one-way commute of about 3 hours from the Tokai region (service area).

But three hours is actually pretty doable, right? lol

How about at your company?

Our scope of work—or rather, the area where we, as slope engineers, operate—is really wide, isn't it?

Since there are so many mountains to begin with, that tends to be the case.

It's really convenient when a job site is close to a highway interchange, isn't it?

Situations like that are rare, though...

And as a rule in our family, if a place is more than an hour and a half away, we stay overnight.

I feel the same way—if it's just an hour or so, I figure I can probably make the commute.

But don't you get fed up once it goes beyond that?

And on top of that, after doing the work and handling the administration...

It’s especially tough for administrators to organize documents and manage photos afterward, isn’t it?

Are you sleeping well?

You just can't seem to shake that fatigue, can you?

Earphones and Driving

For long drives, it is generally recommended to take a break once every two hours or so.

Since they drive for an hour and a half and then go straight to work, the drivers’ fatigue builds up.

And when you factor in the trip back, that doubles.

What's more, spending three hours round-trip on the commute means that,

There’s about two hours of wasted time between when I wake up and when I leave, and between when I wake up and when I get ready for bed.

That means I spend five hours a day commuting.

This is a waste of time. Plus, it’s unlikely to show up in your paycheck. (Though everyone except the driver can just sleep, lol.)

In that case, wouldn't it be nice to stay overnight and make good use of that time?

The level of physical fatigue is also quite different.

Actually, it’s pretty tiring for everyone except the driver, isn’t it? (Even just being a passenger.)

I'm physically tired.

If you force yourself to go, nothing good will come of it.

I think that staying overnight and doing a thorough job will help pave the way for the future.

It'll be too late once an accident happens.

See you later.
