Drilling Depth and Machine Size in Ground Anchor and Rebar Insertion Work (Part 1)

Hello, everyone.

This is Enta.

Drilling Rigs and Slopes

How do you go about selecting a drilling machine?

This is just our case, but I think most companies are pretty much the same—this is just a rough guide.

*This excludes special construction methods.

Drilling diameter φ65—no scaffolding required

Drill hole length: Approximately 2 m to 6 m

Mobile cranes can be used (such as 25-metric-ton rough-terrain cranes)

Suspended Drilling Rig

This is a suspended drilling machine.

Roughly speaking, this machine weighs700–1,200 kgIt depends.

If you don't carefully consider factors such as the working radius when making your selection, there will be areas where you won't be able to drill.

In our case, since we have the smallest model of this machine, we can drill holes using the crab crane.

Ultra-Lightweight Drilling Machine

It weighs about 80 kg.

Drilling diameter φ65 requiring scaffolding

Borehole length: 2–10 m

These are inverter chisels and spring drills.

Because the inverter chisel is compact, it can be operated on scaffolding as low as approximately 3 meters.

That said, even with a spring drill, construction can be carried out with a minimum scaffold height of 3 meters. (Scaffold height is a major consideration.)

There are also slope drills, aren't there?

The names vary depending on the manufacturer, but generally200–600 kg...is the weight.

Spring Drill

Drilling diameters of φ90 or larger that do not require scaffolding

Drilling depth: 2–100 m

It really is a crawler-type rotary percussion machine, isn't it?

Rotary Percussion

Something like thisApproximately 12 metric tonsIt's a pretty decent drilling machine, isn't it?

When there's a dirt surface, I usually use this to drill holes quickly and easily.

Since it can drill holes up to φ65, it’s really useful on dirt sites.

By the way, even with ground anchors for long-span structures, you can generally drill to a depth of about 60 meters with plenty of room to spare? (Depending on the soil conditions.)

Drilling machines for dewatering boreholes are really handy because they can drill holes consistently, aren't they?

To be continued in the next installment

See you later.
