Do you know why slopes collapse? lol
It’s a bit late to say this now, but water is the main reason, isn’t it?
Therefore, since there is no water during the design and survey phases, we do not implement any water-related measures.
However, when it crumbles, it's water.
When a landslide occurs, the underlying rock first deforms and then collapses explosively.
Therefore, if the surface of the natural ground is hard, it cannot deform, making it difficult for the ground to collapse.
The role of a legal framework is to prevent that from being changed by brute force.
The frame restrains the deformation of the natural ground.
I suppose rebar installers and the like would be included in that category as well.
The same principle applies to sprayed mortar, provided it can prevent surface deformation. (Not that it can, lol.)
It’s our job as slope engineers to figure out how to stop the deformation.
I think it’s interesting to consider slope design and construction with those factors in mind.
However, as mentioned above, it’s rare for them to collapse due to external forces such as earthquakes; the cause is almost always water.
I believe it is possible to prevent landslides by controlling the water inside the slope.
When designing and constructing slopes at your company, please keep in mind the water that isn’t visible right now (such as water that appears only during rainfall).
Even though we know water is the cause, current design practices just pretend it doesn't exist lol
