It's been raining in Aichi Prefecture for the past few days.
And today, for the first time in a while, we're drilling with a suspended drill rig.
Drilling on a rainy day is such a pain, isn't it?
It's kind of cold, kind of hot, and kind of muggy—is this sweat, rain, or just the humidity??
Drilling tends to make the slope dirty, doesn't it?
If the drilling slime gets all slimy from the rain and is on red clay, the color will remain as is.
The red clay is caked all over the frame and the mortar surface.
This stain is really hard to remove, even with a pressure washer.
It really is a hassle, isn't it?
Drilling with a suspended rig on a rainy day is kind of a pain, lol
But that's beside the point.
This bit is a single-use bit for a suspended core drill.
These are Phillips-head and flat-head screws.
You can use any bit you like, but of course, one that drills faster is better, right?
If the soil conditions are reasonably stable and the borehole walls can support themselves easily during drilling, a cross bit is sufficient.
However,When the back of the hole tends to get clogged or collapse easily while drillingI would definitely recommend a retractable bit.
If slime stops coming out while drilling, you need to pull the drill out immediately, but,
If there's a blade on the back, it will shave as it rotates.
This means it's easy to escape even if the rear is blocked.
Opera singers understand this all too well, but there are many times when you just can't get it out, even if you keep pounding away while backing up.
Bit's head is just so big that it gets stuck.
In that case, being able to cut from behind the bit is definitely the best option.
Avoiding clogs is the top priority, but sometimes you can't see if the slime is being flushed out.
Sometimes I can't even see the workers right in front of me.
That's when a retractable bit really comes in handy.

Thanks for your hard work. Today we’re doing some sky drilling in the rain (lol). The ground is clay-rich, so the bit gets clogged as soon as it absorbs even a little water—how do track bits perform under these conditions? By the way, I tried drilling in wet conditions, but the topsoil got ruined, and it looked like it was going to turn into a real mess, so I gave up. The clay layer (mixed with silt) turns into a sludgy mess when it rains (sob).
