On Hole Deformation During Drilling in Rotary Percussion Machinery
Speaking of the bent hole from the other day, I’ve got another bent hole this time, lol.
The previous case of hole deviation was in the vertical direction, whereas this case involves horizontal deviation.

You understand that it bends vertically due to its weight, right?
What does “bending horizontally” mean? Well, to explain,
Drilling with rotary percussion always involves both impact and rotation.
It bends as it rotates.
There are no references or other sources indicating the extent to which it bends in the lateral direction, but,
There is a design approach that takes into account the limit values for hole warpage.
This is about the group effect.

Since counterclockwise rotation is considered forward for rotary percussion, it generally tends to move to the left.
I think the borehole will also curve to the left, then to the left again.
But in reality, it seems there are times when it curves to the right too—I guess it depends on the soil type? lol
I do think that if you use the gyro sensor to measure the turns every time, you'll be able to collect good data, though.
Well, there are times when it doesn't really matter if you know, lol
Drilling a drainage borehole to connect one collection well to another is really tough work.
Hitting a 5-meter-diameter catch well 80 meters away is an incredibly difficult feat, lol.
In situations like that, having some general data might be helpful, don't you think?
That said, I guess it really depends on the soil type, lol.
