Basics of Vegetation Engineering | The Roles of Bark, Leaf Mold, and Seeds

Hello, everyone.

This is Enta.

It looks like a typhoon might hit at the end of the month, so the sports day...

Looks like it might get postponed... lol

If that happens, it’ll be postponed to a weekday, so I’m kind of happy about that...

Since I don't have to go on weekdays... lol

Sports Day

But that's beside the point.

Basics of Vegetation Engineering

From the perspective of a slope contractor, vegetation engineering doesn't seem to require particularly advanced technical skills.

It's not particularly difficult, especially from the installer's perspective.

That's because it's called "bark"—you just mix leaf mold, seeds, fertilizer, and glue, then blow it out.

But in reality, it’s a very difficult technique that involves intentionally allowing plants to grow densely.

It's easy enough to apply, but if it doesn't take, you'll have to reapply it.Comes with a 2-year warranty against defectsThat's right lol

Let me introduce the ingredients.

Materials Used

Bark Compost

: Commonly known as leaf mold,Wood that has been left to rot and age。

Although large quantities of bark are used in spray applications, it’s best to use bark with a fine grain and minimal odor.

The coarse texture and sour smell are due to the fact that fermentation is still ongoing, making this a bark with a slightly acidic character.

Since plants generally prefer neutral to alkaline conditions, they are sensitive to acidic conditions and do not thrive well in them.

That’s why it’s only natural that the method of spraying wood chips from felled trees—which was popular a few years ago—didn’t take root.

It would be reckless to rush the process by turning felled trees—such as those from dams—into wood chips and spraying them before they’ve been left to cure for two years.

I suppose there's some theory behind it, but it's a lot of work for the people doing it.

Anyway, that's basically what bark compost is like, lol.

Fertilizer

: So, "All 15" is the fertilizer you use throughout the year.N: Nitrogen, P: Phosphorus, K: Potassium ofMix ratio 15That's the point.

The names vary depending on the manufacturer, but there are times when I find myself thinking, “I just want to grow some weeds—why is there so much fertilizer in here?!”

When spraying vegetation substrate, one type of fertilizer is usually sufficient, but in the past, two types were used in the Kyushu region.

Slow-release fertilizers and high-grade compound fertilizers

Advanced Chemical FertilizerA compound fertilizer is defined as a product containing two or more of the N-P-K nutrients, and among these,Each capsule contains a total of 301 TP3T or moreProducts with this content are called high-grade chemical fertilizers. Those with lower content are called standard chemical fertilizers.

Slow-release fertilizerThis is a slow-release fertilizer, lol. It’s made by coating the fertilizer mentioned above with resin, sulfur, and other materials, so it gradually dissolves when it rains and takes effect little by little. It’s Hustle!!

The idea is to use high-grade chemical fertilizers to provide quick results and slow-release fertilizers to ensure long-term effectiveness.

Glue (Adhesive)

: If only bark is used after spraying, it will be washed away by rain.

That’s why we apply adhesive to prepare for scouring and other issues.

Since resin-based materials have become the mainstream in recent years, we will use those.

In the past, cement was added, but since that made the mixture too alkaline, substances such as superphosphate lime were added to neutralize it.

Powder is so convenient these days, so that's a plus.

I personally avoid using liquids because they can make the Belcon and the surrounding area dirty.

If you do not wait at least five hours after applying the adhesive, there is a risk that it will be washed away by rain.

There is a slight risk involved in construction on rainy days.

Seeds

: While the types of seeds used vary by region, invasive alien species have been found recently, so it’s best to exercise caution when selecting seeds.

If you Google it, you'll find quite a few results, so please give it a try.

Seeds

Other

: While methods vary depending on the person and the region, some people add water-retaining materials, while others create a barrier layer in acidic soil or use sandblasting for rock face greening.

When these materials are thoroughly mixed by machine and sprayed onto a surface, the result is a vegetation substrate spray application.

Until recently,Thick-Layer Substrate Spray ApplicatorThat's what he said, but before I knew it,Vegetation Substrate Spraying TechnicianThe name had been changed to .

Older people call it a "thick-layer substrate," don't they? Either term is fine as long as the meaning comes across. (laughs)

Next up is the recipe, right? lol

See you later.
