Since I had so much free time, I spent some time making the shaft for the vertical mixer I wrote about the other day.
As expected, machining long workpieces is tough—there was some wobble, and I had a hard time keeping it under control lol.
I'm hoping I can improve my skills some more during this Golden Week.
It really does take quite a while to machine all this material, and of course, it gets hot while it’s being machined lol.
Those shavings fly off and hit my face, burning me lol
Safety glasses really are important, aren't they? (Apparently, accidents involving objects getting into the eyes are quite common!)
However, when operating lathes and other rotating machinery, work gloves are strictly prohibited. (There are many accidents involving hands getting caught in the machinery.)
Safety goggles and a hard hat (sawdust flies onto your head and it’s super hot! It’ll kill your hair follicles)—a hat and safety goggles are a must.
Obviously, if you don't wear flame-resistant work clothes, they'll melt and you'll get burned right through to your skin, lol.
I'm learning the differences between the manufacturing and construction industries firsthand. (While working)
It's fun to learn about safety practices in other industries.
So, safety can't always stay the same, right?
Since safety (or danger) is always changing, it is important to know the basic safety measures to take in any given situation.
It's important to be flexible, isn't it?
That said, I do have some paperwork I need to finish during this Golden Week, so I can’t just spend all my time on this, lol.
It’s fun to make even small parts myself, and it’s a nice change of pace, so I’m totally fine with it lol.
It seems like everyone is being a bit more cautious this Golden Week, but please take it easy and try to enjoy yourselves—even just a little—to recharge.
Things are going to get really busy right after Golden Week all the way through the end of the year, so let's just hang in there until the Obon break! lol
