I went to check out the site the other day.
Well, it’s a slope we’re scheduled to start work on next month, but more importantly, I found something incredibly interesting!!
This shows where additional mortar has been sprayed over the existing sprayed mortar!
The cross-section of the newer mortar looked quite clean, and it appeared that no water had seeped into it yet.
I got the impression that the work was done very well.
However, the older application was uneven in thickness, and I found traces where the overspray had firmly adhered.
This national highway is quite old, and while it’s not clear exactly when this embankment was built, it’s possible it’s at least 30 years old.
"Spray loss" refers to areas where the sand and cement were not thoroughly mixed,
Or parts that have separated and are no longer strong
You can still see that spray paint overspray even after all this time, lol.
This is spray-applied insulation from several decades ago!
Since you usually can't see things like this unless you break them, they're really important.
When the general contractor saw me taking photos of parts like this instead of the site where we were about to start work, he gave me a “????” look, lol.
It would be nice to take a core sample of this mortar and test its strength, wouldn't it?
I'd like to try doing things like washing analysis tests (to determine the composition).
While paying respect to the work done in the past, we’re now building anew in the same spot—and it’s quite a moving experience.
