Collapse of the Cliff (Slope) or Stone Wall Below Your Home (For the General Public)

There have been a lot of landslides on slopes in various places lately, haven't there?

There are various causes of collapse, but water is usually the main one.

During the rainy season, when heavy rains and prolonged rainfall continue, conditions can become extremely dangerous.

 

Examples of cases where we might be contacted (for an investigation) include:

1. No abnormalities (high level of crisis management awareness)

2. Already protruding

4. There are cracks in the cliff (slope).

In cases such as those described above, dry-stone walls and unprotected (untreated) cliffs (slopes) are at significant risk of collapse.

The risk increases significantly, especially during the rainy season when there are prolonged rains or heavy downpours.

Please be very careful when doing so.

If possible, we recommend that you evacuate if you notice any of the abnormalities described above.

 

People often say, “It’s fine because the joints in the stonework are filled!”

Pebble Grout

Grout is the mortar that’s placed in the gaps between the stones in a masonry wall, like this, but,

It is utterly meaningless in the face of the power of destruction.

While the joints do help create a certain degree of continuity between the stones,

With regular grout, the amount is so small that it's practically zero lol

Since it offers virtually no resistance to collapse, you shouldn't rely on dry-stone masonry.

If you're going to take action, I recommend doing so as soon as possible.
