Last week, I went to check out the site in Nagano.

I've been working on this project for several years now, and the finished result here is really beautiful.

Even though it's our own company, we're doing a great job, lol.

At a construction site along the river—is it really necessary to work in a place like this??

I'm sure some of you are thinking, "What's this all about?" but this kind of site is actually part of measures to deal with natural dams.

It is also known as a earthen dam.

If a landslide causes sediment to flow into a river and dam it up, creating a natural dam, then—

Water accumulates, and when it collapses, it turns into a flash flood (debris flow), causing major disasters in the downstream areas.

These are the remedial measures we're taking.

Surprisingly, there are many contractors who carry out construction work without understanding the implications, so,

Only a portion of the area within the frame has been coated with sprayed mortar.

The reason for this lies in the topography of the area above.

It's hard to tell from the photo, but this part is actually a valley.

That's why water collects in this area.

This means that since the area inside the frame would erode if it were covered with vegetation, it has been filled with mortar instead.

This water is amazing, isn't it!!!

Water is flowing down from the entire slope, which is why there's this much of it, but

The water has been properly channeled, and the mortar has been sprayed into the formwork in the correct position.

There are often things like this that you can only figure out as you’re actually doing the work, but,

This shows how important it is to check the site even when it’s raining heavily.

In civil engineering, slope stabilization is all about battling water, isn't it? ^^

It’s also our job to control the water to prevent landslides and stop the formation of natural dams.

And even in heavy rain, I think checking the site will help us come up with our next plan.
