Explaining the Difficulty of Explaining | Government Agency Response to Shortening Load Holding Time

Hello, everyone.

This is Enta.

Relaxation and creep stabilized during the load-holding period in the ground anchor tensioning process.

When we shortened the load-holding time, the government agency asked why we had done so.

It's stated in the stress design plan, and it's also stated in the construction standards.

But even if I say that, you won't get it lol

What should we do? lol

It's probably because I didn't explain it well enough, but it's hard to explain, lol.

Relaxation

The phenomenon in which stress or tension decreases over time when the strain in a tendon is kept constant

Creep

A phenomenon in which the tendon elongates and the ground displaces over time while a static and constant tensile force is acting on the tendon

I'm wondering how to put this...

Also, I included the table (displacement diagram) used to calculate the creep in the calculation report, but that turned out to be a mistake.

That's because if you don't understand the concept itself, you won't know what the other person is doing or what kind of documents they are.

In that case, I’ll either be grilled about it or they’ll just ignore it.

I ended up getting grilled on it lol (It’s giving me another chance to study! lol)

Calculate the creep coefficient relative to the design anchor force, as described on page 191 of the “Design and Construction Standards for Ground Anchors and Explanatory Notes.”

That's what it says. So, I went ahead and carefully measured the creep at the maximum load for each stage and plotted it on a graph...

Normally, it would be fine to test only at maximum load.

As for an explanation for that...

So, I'll just delete this graph and submit it with just the equations lol.

Explaining things is really hard. That's right. Moreover, citing sources like academic literature makes it easier to understand and helps the other person accept your point, but,

Sometimes, documents that you’ve gone out of your way to make more creative or easier to understand can actually backfire.

It’s also important to be careful not to create too many documents.

Even though we think we understand, there are times when we forget things or rely on intuition in our work.

Engineers need to perform verification checks from time to time to ensure that such perceptions are consistent.

When things like this are pointed out to me, I learn a lot and get to reaffirm what I already know.

I still have a lot to learn.

See you later.
