To what extent do you tighten the fasteners when installing rebar?
I sometimes get asked that.
What do you all think?
Generally speaking, it’s set so that it doesn’t loosen, but occasionally some people ask for it to be set to a specific load using torque control.
Well, I guess this is fine, but lately I’ve been wondering if there’s even a need to tighten it at all.
I've started to think that.
Is it necessary to apply force until the pressure plate bends?
That's what I think.
Since it’s essentially a retaining structure, a force pulls it in when the mountain is about to collapse.
That means it doesn't matter whether it's loose or tight.
If possible, wouldn't it be better to tighten it very lightly—just enough so the nut doesn't come loose—and secure it with caulk?
That's what I personally think.
It’s because there’s no need to unnecessarily put pressure on the rebar, the cement slurry, and the surrounding soil.
Since it's just a wallpaper, it's fine as is.

However, along national highways or in areas with heavy traffic, it’s a good idea to use adhesive or something similar.
There's a high chance it could come loose due to the car's vibrations.
That said, since it’s highly likely that this line of thinking won’t fly,
It's better to tighten it just enough so it doesn't come loose, like we've always done, lol.
