Applying the Right Amount of Force When Core Drilling | Sampling Test Specimens in Winter

January is getting packed to the brim, and I'm starting to panic... lol

I really hope they can spread out this backlog nicely over the course of a year...


But that's beside the point.

 

It's really tough to collect test specimens (core samples) in the winter, isn't it?

My hands are freezing, which is really tough, but this is part of an administrator’s important job, lol.

I really hate it, but I do like the way it feels when it comes out, though~ lol

However, if it's too soon or too late,

They get all tattered or rock-hard, making them hard to pull out.

This is just my personal guideline, but,

Day 3 of Summer

Day 5 of Winter

...and I'm coring it.

If it's any harder than that, it'll be too tough to work with, and if it's any softer, it'll fall apart.

Also, don't push too hard.

As shown in the photo, the sides become wavy.

It's faster if you press it, lol

The blades wear out fast, lol.

There's also a machine in Shibuya that presses it automatically.

It's too expensive for me to buy, lol

This is a minor point, but if it doesn't pull out straight, it will cause uneven loading during the compressive strength test, and

There is a possibility that strength may decrease.

Please be advised.

The extracted cores are left to cure underwater as is until they reach the specified age.

That will increase the strength and result in a form that more closely resembles on-site conditions.
(The specimen must be soaked in water two days prior to the compressive strength test.)
