Lately, whether on-site or in the office, we’ve really started hearing the term “AI, AI” all the time, haven’t we?
That trend is definitely reaching small and medium-sized slope construction companies like ours, too.
But to be honest, aren't there a ton of people who just get stuck at the point where they're thinking, "So, what should I actually start with?"
This isn't so much an article as it is a little invitation.

Why the “Construction Industry AI Utilization Forum (CAIF)” Now?
I believe that the construction industry will undergo various changes in the future as it integrates AI.
But if we just sit around waiting for things to change, in the end, it’ll be ”outsiders” who end up setting the rules and reaping the profits.
In that case, since we’re the ones who know the situation on the ground, we should take the initiative and get involved rather than just waiting around.
That's what I think.
That said, to be honest, doing it all by myself is pretty tough.
I know there are all kinds of things I can do, but I only know my own industry!
That is precisely why CAIF—commonly known as CAI—was founded on the idea of bringing together like-minded people to make this vision a reality.
What We Do at CAI
Simply put, it’s a meeting group and community where people on the front lines bring ideas like “I want to use AI to do this” or “I want to use AI to do that” and actually get their hands dirty.
We are primarily looking for civil engineering professionals.
Of course, this isn't limited to slope contractors alone.
Civil engineering contractors, paving contractors, foundation contractors, scaffolding contractors, and other trades!
As a construction contractor with experience in construction and construction management, I firmly believe that having people from a variety of industries working together makes things much more interesting.
For example, there are already plenty of people who want to make it easier to create daily reports and other routine documents, right?
I want to create something based on past construction photos and quantity data, and I want to speed up the process of compiling estimates.
How can AI help tackle those common on-site frustrations—the moments when you think, “This is such a hassle”?
I think that kind of down-to-earth theme is just fine.
You don't have to aim for a complicated system right from the start.
Ultimately, we want to create a system that formalizes the technical skills and know-how that each contractor possesses on-site and establishes a mechanism to monetize them.
If things go reasonably well and we generate some money, we’ll make sure to distribute that wealth fairly.
The specific details regarding the handling of funds and the direction we will take will be decided through discussions among the members who have gathered.
This isn't something I can decide on my own.
You're free to choose whether to deposit the money into a company account or a personal account!
What do you think we engineers can accomplish when we come together?
Software that we’ve been relying on IT vendors to provide, at an exorbitant cost.
We’re living in an era where civil engineers can instantly create solutions based on ideas like, “This would make our jobs easier,” or “This would be convenient!”
And AI is incredibly user-friendly for us old-timers who’ve been working on the front lines!
"Huh? Something's wrong here!?"—You'll know it right away!!!
Because we have the experience!! This is something only us old guys and gals—who’ve honed our skills over the years—can do!
We can leave the IT stuff to AI, so we can focus on checking what we’ve created and getting it out there!
That time is just around the corner.
Application Guidelines
We will be accepting applications on X and this blog.
We'll be creating a form, so please submit your request to participate there.
Over the next one to two months, to start with,Somewhere in Tokyo on August 1We plan to hold our first meeting there.
Capacity: Approximately 10 to ∞; screening requiredThat's what I'm thinking.
Here are the basic requirements for participation.
・Must be a construction contractor with experience in construction and construction management (primarily in civil engineering)
・Being able to approach things with the mindset that “it’s okay to fail”
・People who already have an idea of “what they want to do with AI” (or are already working on it)
・People who are willing to make time to do the work themselves
・Anyone who wants to get involved or help out is more than welcome.
・Office workers are welcome, too
・People with at least 5 years of experience at construction sites
・Real names and company names (kept confidential under an NDA)
・Even if your company tells you to go, it’s OK to go on your own!
Also, this is...PrerequisiteHowever, whenever people get together, there are bound to be some sources of conflict.
So, by the day of the event,NDA (Non-Disclosure Agreement)will be signed.
Please note that everything discussed at the meeting is to remain confidential.

How will Japan’s construction industry change in the future with the help of AI?
To be honest, even I can't say for sure that ”it'll turn out this way” lol
But if you don't understand, just go ahead and try it out for yourselves, even if you don't fully understand.
It's okay to fail.
If you don't give it a try, you'll end up not knowing anything at all.
In this age of AI, don't just wait—take the initiative and jump right in.
