I went to Izu the other day.

From the Shin-Tomei Expressway to Shuzenji via the Izu Jukan Expressway!

It's been a while since I went, but I can breeze through it in one go!!!

Back in the day, traffic jams on the Tomei Expressway from Numazu used to be a real hassle, didn't they?

I'm so impressed that now it seems you can get all the way to the Shuzenji area in one go.

I remembered that I had done a few general contractor projects in the Shuzenji area.

This construction project is still in full swing.

It looks like it continues all the way to Shimoda.

Civil engineering is such a wonderful and amazing field, yet it has such a low social status...

I wonder why??

Well, maybe I'm still hung up on the old "3K" concept.

Back in the day, most of the jobs that kids who skipped school and acted like total idiots ended up doing were manual labor jobs.

Those people who were called "stupid kids" are now...Valuable multi-skilled and specialized workersThat's it.

I just didn't do my schoolwork, but I did my job. As a result, I'm a civil engineering pro!

I'm that type, too, lol. I'm a bit of a fool, but I never stopped going with the flow.

And, given the historical context, it was a time of rapid growth in civil engineering and construction!

Back then, there was plenty of work available, so salaries were high—it was a good time, but,

That era came to an end when our workload decreased and our pay started to drop—that was back when we were young.

Times have changed since then, and mechanization has advanced to an extreme degree.

We’re in an era where machines automatically move soil, rather than people touching it by hand.

The phrase "hard, dirty, dangerous" no longer applies.

I can't say it doesn't happen, but it's much better than it used to be!

And the number of women entering the workforce has increased significantly. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism is also promoting this trend.

If we can dispel even a little of that negative image, it’ll probably make recruiting a bit easier, won’t it?

Civil engineering is such an amazing field—let’s work to improve the public image of civil engineering as a profession!
