The other day, the foreman in charge of that job site sent me some photos from the site.
The work at the zabuton frame site turned out absolutely terrible lol (I want to post it, but I can't)
It's to the point where you'd ask, "Is this test okay?"
From what I heard, this was the first time the construction crew had worked on zabuton frames, and it was also the supervisor’s first time.
I just laughed and said, “Well, that’s impossible,” but I’ve been hearing stories like this a lot lately.
1. A competent construction crew + an incompetent supervisor = a job site that’s done right
2. An incompetent construction crew + a competent supervisor = It takes more time and money, but the work turns out well.
3. Incompetent construction crew + incompetent foreman = No way that'll work lol
4. A skilled construction crew + a skilled supervisor = a great result, delivered quickly!
It seems this job site was a "3." If it were me, I wouldn't want to go help out at a place like that or have anything to do with it, lol.
If the general contractor really, really asks for help, I wouldn't completely rule it out, but providing support is a lot of work, isn't it?
There are plenty of times when you can’t do either, so I guess it can’t be helped, but if you can’t do it, you shouldn’t take the job.
If you take on a job based on the assumption that you’ll probably be able to handle it, there’s a very real possibility that things could go horribly wrong.
It would be fine if the coaching staff were experienced and there was an environment where we could learn from them, though...
I don't take on jobs I can't do.
I tend to take on those kinds of jobs, but I’ll only do them if the director is at a certain level, lol.
Alternatively, we will accept projects that are similar to slope stabilization or anchor installation work.
If it were a job I knew absolutely nothing about, I’d consider it, but generally speaking, I don’t want to be a burden, so I won’t take it on.
Everyone has their own way of taking on work, but I’d like to find a way to do so that doesn’t cause any trouble for the prime contractor.
Poor workmanship can also cause inconvenience to others.
It really made me think.
