The other day, I had the opportunity to participate in a study session and presentation on the use of ICT, BIM, and CIM.
I had the opportunity to learn how to apply new technologies.
So, I was thinking...
This all has to do with the general contractor.
The general contractor takes the lead in making appeals to government agencies and improving efficiency.
We subcontractors are being left behind...
Is this okay??
We subcontractors just do the work we’re told to do—is that really okay?
As I’ve often said,
Subcontractors disappear at a rate of 99%, only to be replaced by new ones elsewhere, and the cycle repeats.
99% of the subcontractors I worked with 20 years ago are no longer in business.
If the boss passes away, the business will fall apart and close down.
The question is whether the surviving subcontractors will become prime contractors or have successors.
What can we, as subcontractors, do to survive and grow alongside the general contractor?
That's what I ended up thinking.
What do you think the general contractor thinks of a subcontractor that’s completely dependent on them? lol
I think there's also the aspect of it being convenient.
But then, that means subcontractors won't be able to grow, right?
Is there any way I can do more than just the work I was asked to do?
I hear that if you hire that subcontractor, you’re guaranteed to get that thing that boosts your government agency’s evaluation.
I thought it would be nice if there were something we could take on even as a subcontractor.
I just can't stand it when the general contractor is the only one working hard to get things done, while the subcontractors just sit around twiddling their thumbs.
If I were the general contractor, I think I’d be thinking, “It’s nice to be a subcontractor, huh?” lol
It was a study session that made me want to create something that only a subcontractor can do.
At study sessions like this, I’m really struck by my own complacency, lack of expertise, and lack of potential for growth.
It's a daily learning experience.
I'll think of something else!
Something I can do as a subcontractor!
