An Article I Wrote, But It's All Over the Place | A Slope Builder's Ramblings

Hello, everyone

This is Enta.

The other day, I got an inquiry from a design consultant asking me to send a cost estimate ASAP, lol.

That day, I had just finished drilling five anchor holes (14 meters each) and was completely exhausted when I got home.

Just as I was thinking, “Man, I’ve been drilling a lot today,” the phone rang—and it turned out they were in trouble!

"Please, help me..."

The deadline was today, and I knew I’d be in trouble if I didn’t turn it in by then, so I got it done lol

To be honest, I was so exhausted that I couldn't think straight—it was really tough.

And here's the thing.

Calculating by hand...

Calculating the total by hand...

Manual calculation

I haven't done any calculations by hand in the last few years—or rather, in the last ten or so years...

That really blew me away, lol.

Also, the company in Nagano doesn't have any cost estimation documents.

So, when I said, “I don’t have the cost estimate documents, you know…,” they kindly sent them to me by email. (If I hadn’t had them, I wouldn’t have been able to use that workaround, lol.)

Well, I ended up doing it after all. Yeah.

I went ahead and did it.

I was a bit out of it when I did this, so I'm a little worried, but I plan to go back to Nagoya and double-check my calculations lol.

Manual calculations (even if it's in Excel) are pretty scary, aren't they?

Since the design consultants are busy, that means we contractors are busy, too.

However, when we receive requests like this from design consultants, we can quickly find out where and what kind of construction projects are coming up.

In that sense, the big companies really do have an edge, don’t they? They get a lot of requests, after all~

I’ve also been involved in that project—from part of the design and cost estimation through to the bidding process—but since I’m not actually engaged in sales activities, I rarely end up carrying out the construction work myself.

Normally, I guess we’d approach them by saying something like, “We handled part of the design and cost estimation for the winning bidder,” right?

I'm not really good at that kind of thing, so my stance is that I'll go if I'm invited, lol (I don't know if that's good or bad, lol).

I believe our sales approach works well when our field staff handle the installation.

The quality of construction management, the quality of the workmanship, and the finished product, right?

It’s enough to just have repeat customers from people who liked what they saw. (There have been so many lately that it’s become impossible to keep up, lol.)

Lately, as our numbers have grown, things have gotten a bit more challenging, but,

Since we’re getting opportunities like this—including consulting projects—we’ll all work our hardest as a team!

Summer is just around the corner, so let's give it our all!

Before that, the rainy season will arrive, so let’s thoroughly inspect the ground after heavy rains and take the necessary safety precautions.

See you later.

I wrote this after finishing my calculations, so I'm definitely tired lol
That was a rambling post, lol.
