The Joy of Making Things | A Hands-On 3D CAD Experience at Homatsuya

Hello, everyone.

This is Enta.

Lately, I've been having so much fun making things.

Today, we'll be testing a new heatstroke prevention product on site for the first time.

I’d been planning to make it since last year—I’d even drawn up the blueprints—but I put it off because I was so busy.

I finally managed to do it last week.

I'm going to test it out today, and if it works out, I might start mass-producing it lol

If it's not good, we'll just have to improve it.

We’ll basically build it using 3D CAD.

I sketched a rough design on paper, imagining the actual dimensions as I went.

With today's 3D CAD software, editing is so easy that you can draw exactly what you want and edit it just the way you want.

Since the revisions are linked to the dimension values, you can easily update the entire set by making a change in just one place.

What's more, since you can choose from various types of steel, such as iron and stainless steel, it's easy to determine the weight.

Thanks to 3D CAD, development goes smoothly, doesn't it?

My development work is primarily focused on slope stabilization.

I make things when I’m out in the field and realize I need them, or when I run into a problem.

 

Up until now, whenever I ran into a problem, I'd search online, and if I couldn't find a solution, I'd just give up.

It’s become a case of “if it doesn’t exist, just make it.” I used to think, “There’s nothing that doesn’t exist these days, right?!” but,

There are quite a few things you don't have, aren't there? Are there things you're having trouble with?

There are things I find inconvenient, or ways I think would be faster.

I imagine that most of the people reading my blog are always looking to stay informed, so,

Even when faced with inconveniences on the job, they’re probably always thinking, “If I do it this way, it’ll be more convenient,” or “I can make it work with this.”

Whether or not that can be realized depends on the company you work for, though.

I’ve always thought it would be great if we slope contractors could work together to come up with ideas like that and turn them into projects.

That said, if we actually end up creating something that really sells, I’m a little scared because it seems like all sorts of problems might arise, lol.

It's like counting your chickens before they're hatched, lol

 

For now, I'm curious to see how today's experiment turns out, but I'll let you know once it's done.

After all, it's a summer-only promotion to help prevent heatstroke, lol.

I'm pretty sure craftsmen will like it! (I designed it with craftsmen in mind.)

    As for heatstroke prevention... I've been thinking for a while now that the helmets used by slope workers might actually work just as well as mountaineering helmets. If you fall from a height of 20 meters or more, I wonder if a standard construction helmet would actually be enough to protect you? They’re expensive, but mountaineering helmets are designed to protect the back of the head too, right? (This is just my personal opinion, but) if you fall, the impact would knock you right off your feet… Plus, mountaineering helmets look cool… I’d like to see something like that for heatstroke prevention…? I can’t wait to see it. Stay safe tomorrow, too!

      I wonder how it works for mountaineering...

      I suppose it would be fine as long as it meets the safety standards for construction, but I have a feeling it probably wouldn't pass based on those standards.

      I'll release that eventually. Someday. It's still in the prototype stage right now, lol.
