Basics of 3-Meter Ground Anchors | The Gap Between Design and the Field

We've been working on a coastal construction site for the past few days.

The other day, a machine malfunction occurred due to a mistake on my part.

 

Because of that, I ended up going home early—the photo above shows me waiting for the boat lol

Even at a time like this, I'm still getting a tan lol

And my eyes were all watery...

The toughest parts of this job are the cold and sunburn.

I think I'll be all tanned by the time it's over lol

 

This construction site is quite unusual—it’s a site where, according to the designer, a bedrock foundation of about 2 meters is sufficient.

However, construction is proceeding in accordance with the Design and Construction Standards for Ground Anchors, and the design has been prepared accordingly.

Ground Anchor Construction: Cylindrical Surface Friction Resistance

Based on our general understanding, the minimum anchorage length is 3 meters, right?

Then, after penetrating about 0.5 to 1 meter into the high-quality consolidation zone, the consolidation zone begins.

But that has absolutely nothing to do with this situation lol. It's hilarious lol.

 

Normally, this is something the government would be concerned about, but instead, we're the ones wondering, "Is everything okay?"

Well, as long as the government says that's fine, there's no problem, so we're moving full steam ahead, but,

I'm just reporting everything step by step to make sure there aren't any surprises later on.

"The anchorage depth for No. ○○ is only about 2.5 meters" (in this type of soil, the anchorage layer begins immediately after the sedimentary layer).

I don't want any problems to arise, so for now I'm making a note of the consolidation layers in each area.

 

It seems like the design was done by some kind of "revolving-door agency"—one teeming with former employees—without any consultants involved...

Looks like it's a pretty rough place, lol.

My gut feeling is that, at the current drilling depth, the stabilization layer is about 2.5 meters long, but if we keep going like this, the drilling depth will get shorter, so I have a feeling the stabilization layer will disappear lol.

The sedimentary soil section is loose enough to dig into easily without a hammer, and the ground is such that sand flows back up.

As you'd expect, it can't really take hold with a 3-meter anchorage length there, lol.

I'm thinking there's a good chance the project will come to a halt sometime next week—lol.

I'm hoping that doesn't happen, but who knows what will happen...

(They told me to let them know if the settlement drops below 2 meters, lol)

 

Being on set really is fun, isn't it?

All sorts of things happen.

It's just so great to see the project moving forward while they deal with those issues, isn't it?

 

This is especially true for ground anchor work, because when you look back, you can clearly see the path of the work you’ve done.

The worksite is the best!

 

I'll keep doing my best, even with this sunburn!
