Measures to Prevent Cliff and Ground Collapses in Residential Homes | Stabilization Through Drainage Boring

I heard that the area around Shizuoka was hit pretty hard the other day, and since I know quite a few people there, I'm worried.

I received a message from a friend first thing this morning saying they're having a hard time, so I'd like to offer my sympathies.

Since there are reports that it may rain again, we recommend that everyone in mountainous areas and regions with many cliffs evacuate as soon as possible.

As it stands, the mountain has not yet fully drained the water, so if it rains here again, the situation will become extremely dangerous.

Please be very careful.


But that's beside the point.

Moldam Method

This is the site where we carried out stabilization work on a stone wall that had collapsed during the summer.

 

Due to the typhoon, there was quite a bit of heavy rain in Aichi Prefecture, so,

I went to check out the scene at that time.

 

At this site, the stonework protrudes outward, and

There were also quite a few cracks in the joints, and soil and sand had washed away from the back side. (Work was completed in June.)

There is internal pressure.

The yard has sunk quite a bit—it's a seriously bad situation.

We thoroughly removed the thin joint mortar and injected Moldam.

We then addressed the water—which was causing the seepage—by using a dewatering well.

Water was trickling out of that dewatering borehole. (Drilled length: 4 m)

 

Just this alone will stabilize the mountain.

Well, it would be tough if there were more landslides or collapses than expected, but I think we can generally handle it by draining the water.

I've been thinking lately that,

Construction companies and real estate agents don't give the ground conditions a second thought. (Do real estate agents just sell properties?)

But if the ground is solid, the house shouldn't waver even if a disaster strikes, right?

They say that the foundation of a house is built to be sturdy, but,

Since the foundation of a house is made of concrete, it can be calculated to a certain extent.

But actually, the ground is even lower than that.

What's important is...

 

There are plenty of techniques for reinforcing that area, but cost-effectiveness is certainly a factor, isn't it?

My personal recommendation is to build a rock-solid foundation, and

I just kind of think to myself, “Building a cabin up there would probably be the safest option,” lol.

    As I mentioned, I think the key issue with a home’s foundation is whether the ground is solid.
    Perhaps because they just want to sell the lots quickly and make a profit, there are some housing developments where they’re using fill dirt without considering the soil quality, and there are many areas that make me wonder if this is really okay.
    Ideally, we’d build on bedrock, but since such favorable conditions are rare, would pile foundations be a realistic option? Personally, I’d like to put my mind at ease with deep foundation piles (lol).

      It looks like they're going to build a house on deep foundation piles, doesn't it? lol

      Drilling a single deep foundation pile and building a doghouse on top of it is the best, lol.
