The other day, during a main contractor’s safety inspection at a job site, I was called out on my safety harness.
The issue was with the attachment hardware connecting the safety harness the Vietnamese worker was using to the rope.
It's what's commonly known as "loli."
That's the one mentioned above.
This Lolip doesn't break very often, so I end up using it for quite a while.
Also, it’s hard to tell if it’s broken, and the Vietnamese person I was working with this time couldn’t tell.
It wasn't brand-new to begin with.
Plus, it actually works just fine, lol.
It works fine, but I had it replaced after being told there was a problem.
The issue pointed out was that the screw wasn't tightening all the way, so it wasn't acceptable.
The screw thread seems to have become slightly stripped, so it didn't seem to tighten all the way.
However, it seems it was still usable because the locking pin fit.
I believe the law specifies standards for safety devices and fall arrest equipment, so even if just one of them is broken, it could already be illegal.
(I wasn't able to find the relevant information. If anyone knows where it's written, please let me know.)
It’s precisely because these things rarely break that it’s important to inspect them.
Especially from an objective, third-party perspective!
Even if it’s broken to a degree you wouldn’t normally notice, the person using it doesn’t realize it, does he?
It's because I don't use things that aren't broken.

If safety can be ensured by something as simple as this, it’s easy, isn’t it?
You should be especially careful around foreigners, such as Vietnamese people. (It’s really hard to teach them safety standards.)

It was great that I always have a spare carabiner for my safety harness, so I could replace it right away.
Have a third party inspect the components of your safety harness—it could save your life!
