Tips for Minimizing the Wear and Tear on Consumables

Here's what's inside the swivel.
It's called a cleaning adapter.

The cleaning adapter is included inside the cleaning swivel shown in the photo above.
There are several large holes in the cleaning adapter, spaced side by side.
The Drill Slime will be expelled from this section.
When that happens, both small and large slimes come out, but,
That's when friction occurs between the gasket and the slime. This incredibly hard chunk of iron gets worn down.
If it gets worn down, the gasket will no longer function properly, causing a leak from the cleaning swivel.
A little leakage isn't a big deal, but eventually even the cleaning swivel will break.
This cleaning adapter and cleaning swivel set costs about 300,000.
It's an incredibly expensive item. Rotary percussion instruments use a lot of these kinds of consumables.

I think about 1.5 mm has been shaved off the cleaning adapter shown in the photo.
This cleaning adapter is a replacement part, so it can't be used anymore.
The cleaning swivel (shown in the yellow photo above) is equipped with a grease nipple for lubrication.
I grease this area about twice a day.
Even so, it gets cut.
Since they're consumables, there's not much we can do about it, but as a service provider, we want to extend their lifespan as much as possible.
So, here’s a drilling method you should really try to avoid as much as possible:

Drilling with a swivel uses up air like crazy! Things just keep breaking.
It is said that when double-pipe drilling is performed using air drilling, the service life of the cleaning adapter is 200 hours or less.
If it only lasts 33 days based on 6 hours of operation per day, that’s basically like throwing away about 10,000 yen a day.
(This figure of "less than 200 hours" is actually quite accurate. The source of the data is a mechanic at a certain leasing company.)
For double-pipe drilling, we recommend using a water trench whenever possible.
Just reducing the amount of water and adding air makes a big difference.
Since it really helps keep dust down, a moat is definitely the way to go.
And apparently, there’s an amazing technology that can bring this cleaning adapter back to life.
I just found out myself, but apparently you can actually restore this bumpy surface to its original condition!!
What's more, they said it was cheaper than buying it, and that it became harder after processing than it was before.
So, I'll give it a try.
