How to Remove Unnecessary Ground Anchors

Hello, everyone.

This is Enta.

How to Remove the Zabuton Frame and Unload the Ground Anchors

In my previous post, I wrote about how to remove ground anchors.

Anchor Head, Rust 2

This time, we'll look at a method for unloading at the anchor head.

You'll need acetylene gas and oxygen.

And here's the torch.

Gas Torch

This is a standard gas cutting torch.

I'll use this to sear it.

Anchor Head

A typical anchor head looks something like this, right?

If it's tight, the wedge must be wedged in, right?

What should I do when shipping this out?

Anchor Head Wedge

Heat the wedge-shaped part until it turns bright red.

It does burn the surrounding area a little, though.

The reason we heat the wedge is that iron becomes softer when heated.

When the area where the wedge is embedded in the PC strand is heated, the crimped section—where friction is caused by tension—slips right out.

Be sure to heat the wedge thoroughly until the PC strand is pulled in.

Danger Spots

As it is heated, the PC strand is pulled in all at once.

Sometimes, the anchor head flies straight backward the moment the last PC strand is pulled in!

It is extremely dangerous.

When performing unloading work using gas, be sure to install lath and a flame-retardant sheet or similar material on the back side before proceeding.

Also, please make sure that the person performing the heating work does not stand directly in front of the equipment.

Since an anchor that has been unloaded may fall all at once if it is attached to a load-bearing plate, it is important to take precautions such as pulling on the load-bearing plate from above.

Once you've done it once, it's not really that big of a deal, but it can be scary if you don't know how, lol.

If you don't have any experience, please feel free to reach out to me ^^

Let's proceed with great care.

Ground Anchor Construction

However, PC steel strands do heat up.

As a result, it may undergo plastic deformation (and probably will), which could cause it to lose some of its elasticity.

Since that anchor cannot be used, this method is fine for anchors that are to be completely removed, but

If you're saying you want to get back into shape, that won't work.

Please consider this solely as a method for removal.

See you later.
