Are there any alumni at your company?

 

Well, when you say “former employee,” do you mean someone who used to work for such-and-such a major general contractor?

The most common ones are former government officials, right? (What people call “amakudari,” lol)

So, what do you think these retired executives who’ve landed cushy jobs do for a living?

 

I feel like if I write something like this, I’m probably going to get flak from somewhere again, but,

Please keep in mind that this is just my imagination, lol.

 

To be honest, I had no idea what the alumni from my time at that big company were up to, lol.

When I got to work this morning, he was reading the newspaper and sipping tea lol

It feels like I'm just taking it easy this morning, lol

 

While the on-site employees are swamped with meetings and paperwork from the morning on, the alumni take it easy.

I did feel a bit of a disconnect because of this gap, but,

I had the impression that people usually retired after about 3 to 5 years.

 

Back then, I guess the alumni would show up only during the final inspection or when there was some kind of problem, right?

Personally, I didn't think it was necessary for them to come to the exam lol

Because when it comes to the inspection of a site we worked so hard to build and manage,

It pisses me off that the alumni show up and just chat with the inspectors while everything wraps up! lol

 

Isn't it the agent's job to discuss the work done on-site and the paperwork while exchanging views with the inspector!?

I really wanted them to check everything thoroughly right to the very end, lol.

Now I can just think, “Go ahead and do it in a flash,” but back then I was young and really serious about it, lol (Now, though...)

 

I think today's alumni are much the same, but,

Do we really need former government officials these days??

Well, since we don't do general contracting work, I'm not sure how things are these days.

Back in the day, there weren't things like overall evaluations like there are now, so the influence of alumni played a role.

Depending on the position that former employee held when they retired and the role they took on afterward, it could affect the bidding process and other discussions...

He used to say that a mere former government official is completely useless, lol (back in the day, anyway).

 

Even now, there are former employees of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, as well as former employees of various prefectural and municipal governments, working at companies I know.

I hear that some capable alumni also handle administrative work and matters related to bidding, and they’re said to be making a significant contribution in those areas.

Among them...

 

So here's my question.

 

Personally, I’d like to see that money distributed to the younger generation.

Personally, I believe that the coming era will be one in which the elderly provide value in return.

This applies to social security, wages, and the labor force alike.

It would be great if we were in a period of rapid economic growth right now, but we're right in the middle of deflation and a weak yen, lol.

I wonder how things will turn out...
